I looked out my window and saw the Mourning Cloak landing on some dried leaves. It’s my first butterfly I’ve seen this spring the the first since 11/1/07.

I specifically went out to look for Mourning Cloaks and I found one! It was sitting on the edge of the trail ON SNOW basking in the sun.

I had never seen a butterfly so early in spring. I went on-line to see if I could find out some more information. I was able to identify it as the Mourning Cloak and learned that it hibernates. I learned something new today. I thought it was way too cold for butterflies. Nice way to bring in spring.
