Butterfly sightings for June 2006

Many Dragonflies also appearing with the warm weather.

Three of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtails were puddling by the lakeshore.

Two of the Pearl Crescents were mating.

The second photo has 9 Hobomok Skippers and 1 Northern Crescent on dung!

The most Hackberry Butterflies I have ever seen in one day. The entire Millville trail had them. At the largest cluster of them I counted 26. At one point I had three on my chest and one on my camera. I also took a picture of a Turtle laying eggs with a Hackberry sitting on it. You didn't have to walk to find them. They are all on the trail. My first American Painted Lady was at Woodman.

Saw and photograph a Bog Fritillary laying eggs on Wild Cranberry.

loads of gorgones on Ceanothus ovatus along the road.

plus a ton of skippers i either cant identify yet or that move to fast to be identified by me.

Also saw 2 adult Virginia rails and 5 jet-black, fluffy young rails!

One of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtails was a black form female- the shadow of the tiger stripes was visible.

Sightings over 16th and 17th June. Weather partly cloudy on 16th.
Spring Azure included a single individual of f.marginata.

Saw one Male puddling in Parking lot.

Common Milkweed and Monarchs present numbering in the 100's. Hobomok's common in woodland openings and even saw several afield. Also saw one of the witches, which I was unable to positively ID.

Saw an Indigo Bunting too!

Windy, cloudy, and cold. But a few butterflies around!

1st Regals of the year!

Hail damage was amazing!
