Butterfly sightings for October 2009

Watched this painted lady for quite awhile early this afternoon, alternating between perching on various flowers and spreading her wings on the warm stone path.

sunny but very cold day (low 40s)

Sunny, windy and 55 degrees this afternoon. All were seen in more sheltered areas except for the Tortoiseshell, which was on the south side of my house.

First butterfly I've seen in a long while!

I saw a morning cloak while looking out the bedroom window. It was a real joy and surprise.

Mourning Cloak was seen at my home on Vilas Rd.
Monarch seen at neighbor's farm on Vilas Rd.
Also saw another Monarch at McCarthy Park near intersection of Co. TT and Co. N.
Total was 3 Monarchs and one Mourning Cloak

Also a single Lance-tipped Darner dragonfly.

Very windy. They were flying along the side of gravel roads. Temperature 50 degrees.

Tortoiseshell seen flying around the eves of a cabin and fluttering around an open barn door in the sun. Morning Cloak seen floating in and out among trees and brush in the shade
