The Variable Dancer was the most widespread Dancer seen in Wisconsin in 2003. Unlike the other Dancers that inhabit areas along larger rivers, the Variable Dancer inhabits lakes and small streams resulting in this species being seen at over 10 sites throughout central Wisconsin. This variety of the Variable Dancer is also called the Violet Dancer because of its violet color. The second photo is of a teneral male before he gets the violet color. The photo on the bottom I call symmetrical egg laying. There were many pairs of Variable Dancers laying eggs in less than a one square meter area and these two pair just happened to cooperate for this photo.
