Subarctic Bluet

(Coenagrion interrogatum)

The Subarctic Bluet is mainly a northern species and is a rare species in Wisconsin. These photos were all taken on June 12, 2005 at a small bog lake in Oneida County, Wisconsin. This was the second year that I had gone to this lake to attempt to take some photos. Last year I saw only one individual, and wasn’t able to obtain a decent photo. This year I was able to see 10+, but I wasn’t able to find a female that was unattached to a male. The photo on the bottom right shows a male that wasn’t able to find an unattached female either, and attached himself to another male that I was trying to photograph and flew away with him after I snapped this picture.
