Marsh Bluet

I have seen Marsh Bluets flying from mid-June through the second week in August in central Wisconsin. They are very similar to the Hagen’s Bluet, which also fly during the same time. In fact, at many sites these species both fly at the same time. It is very difficult to distinguish between these two species with close-focusing binoculars, but in good light I was able to see the small wrench-shaped, which I verified by capture and release. The detail of the male terminal appendages showing the wrench-shape was cropped from the original photo.
