Butterfly sighting

Oct 27 2013

Karl and Dorothy Legler

Location: Cassville
Grant County

Also saw a white female Sulphur. It is always amazing to find Dainty Sulphurs persisting at the end of the year, after several evenings of temperatures in the 20's. They are so small they can't hold heat very well, and being immigrants they are built for warmer climes! We've seen them in late January and February in Texas which suggests they might overwinter as adults like some other Sulphurs. Perhaps here in Wisconsin the last generation simply outlives the adult stage of our permanent residents (except Anglewings, etc.) Just guessing.
