Location: Pleasant Valley Conservancy
Dane County

A female monarch was observed laying eggs in a large patch of common milkweed, oak savanna habitat at Pleasant Valley Conservancy. She spent at least 15 minutes visiting plants and appeared to deposit at least a dozen eggs, also clearly rejected some milkweed plants. We were able to find four plants with eggs; these plants varied from 4 to 9 inches in height.
