Location: Four bogs and their roadsides
We surveyed the 4 bogs where we have seen Purplish Fritillaries within the past 12 years: Bear Lake, North Bear, Lyman Lake, and Milchesky Road 1.15. The coppers were way past peak, when in most years this date remains main flight. In the last 22 or so years that we have monitored Purplish Fritillaries about twice per flight, the 7 years with the lowest counts were 2013 through 2019. During 2018 and 2019 we surveyed twice during the normal flight period and found a combined 1 Purplish Fritillary in two years. Atlantis Fritillary counts are higher on a broad front this year than during the very low years 2018-2019.
