Butterfly sighting

Aug 17 2011

Jim Ebner

Location: Okauchee
Waukesha County

Observed my first Giant Swallowtail (female) for the season on dwarf zinnias. Despite camera in hand, it flew off after seconds, and I was unable to photo it. Observations made in my garden and nearby clover field reported also on Aug. 16. A yellow female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail laid several eggs on a young ash tree in my yard and I detected a full grown Black Swallowtail larvae on my dill. An example of predation of the Common Buckeye was also found on Queen Anne's Lace.
