Butterfly sighting

Location: Shaginappi Park
Fond du Lac County

On a cold (high 40s), overcast, very windy day, the last thing we expected to see were hundreds of butterflies, but there you go. The "red" trail in the park was a bit damp, full of blooming violets and dandelions - and literally hundreds of Red Admirals. Perhaps they were enjoying the shelter from the wind provided by the shrubs and small trees? A few were on dandelions, but most were just basking or hanging tight. Some were much darker brown than others. Great sign of spring.
