I was birding the other day when I saw a Sulphur when it was warm out. I wasn't able to identify it before it flew, but I think it was an Orange Sulphur. Today I was birding and keeping an eye out for butterflies because it was nearly 50 degrees, when I saw a Question Mark/Comma. I followed it until it landed on our roof, and I was able to take a photo of it. I then identified it as an Eastern Comma using the photo. The photo was taken with a point-and-shoot camera through my scope, and then cropped, so it isn't that good of quality, but you can easily identify the butterfly in the photo. |

Great delight, yet very surprised. I thought it was a leaf blowing in the wind, but when it came closer, it was very clear it was controlling its flight and it was a mourning cloak with the distinctive yellow trim! Wish I had been able to take a picture but I did not have a camera available. |

While birding on this sunny, not cold morning, a single Mourning Cloak flew by along the bluff.
