After five days without any sightings, three of which I made an effort to see if I could find butterfly activity, today I was rewarded. Immediately upon arrival at 10AM I see three Clouded Sulphurs traveling the fire lane between farm fields to the Prairie Remnant. Its about 52 degrees and warming up because the sky is sunny & clear. by lunch, 58 degrees in the sun at 12:30, 11 sightings have been recorded walking the prairie remnant. including one albino Clouded Sulphur. While we eat lunch the sky clouds over almost completely. By 1:30 in just a few minutes a cold front set in and temperatures dropped back to around 48 degrees. No more butterflies were observed for the rest of the day! Available nectar sources included Dandelions on the fire lanes, a few late blooming Frost Asters, and some Triflorum Clovers. |
My first November sightings in five years of reporting.
