1.3 hours. Although Regls were in several areas in the east half of the prairie, the big concenrtation was the southernmost hill that is west of the north-south draw that divides the site in half. This is our 21st year in a row monitoring Regal Fritillaries here. After several low Regal years here, this count has bounced upward into the range of counts when we found 30-50 Regals a year almost every year on this transect here during about 2001-2010. One of the Regals I saw was a female. |

Same bogs as July 22, but today we didn't do a roadside count at the two Moose Junction bogs. We think Purplish Fritillary should have been in main flight today. This is our lowest main flight count of Purplish Fritillary ever out of 20 years monitoring the six bogs here where we have seen the species. Our previous low was more than 4 times as high as this. Note that we visited again on August 11 in case the flight was later than usual this year. |
