Temperatures ranging from 56 - 71 F today. I first saw the Eastern Comma about 8:30 a.m. I was hoping to see the Red Admiral again, but did not until about 2:30 p.m. Happy to see all these butterflies during this lovely weather. The Clouded Sulphur flew through with no chance to get a photo. |

Sunny and 45 F but no wind and was very surprised see two butterflies fly across the yard; neither of which I was close enough to identify. Ran back in to get the camera and watched as a Red Admiral flew around me and left. Decided to hang out for a while hoping to see it again. After about fifteen minutes it flew through and once again was gone. So waited again to finally see it land. I was able to get a very bad picture which is exactly what the Red Admiral indicated I deserved for my total lack of 'butterfly sighting preparation' today. It goes without saying. . . I shall try to do better! |

Sunny and windy at 11:30 with temperatures in lower 60's. The Red Admiral and I hung out for about a half hour. It landed in several sunny locations and seemed to be just enjoying the sun's warmth. The day became cloudy and I didn't see the Admiral again until around 2:30 when the sun reappeared with temperature at 64 and the wind calm. |

This butterfly was pointed out to me by a fellow birder. It started out by the smashed pumpkins where the squirrels were feasting an then flew off to land on the seed under the bird feeders. |
