Butterfly sightings for March 2021

Seen in riparian area along Yahara R. Let the season begin!

Going up the bluff road, just before 1pm, on our land when a butterfly flew up, I stopped and it landed about ten feet from me. Temp about 50 and sunny, beautiful March day.

Back in our garden after several years' absence; perhaps he was on sabbatical...

Spotted in backyard on the edge of woods.

Clear skies and sunny, but only about 40 degrees. First Mourning Cloak and first butterfly of the year.

While raking leaves, I saw two Mourning Cloaks in different locations. Wish I'd had my camera handy.

Sunny, 54 F, strong south wind. Observed at edge of small wooded area, in dried grass.

The Mourning Cloak flew out of a large tree near our yard circling overhead then flew off. First butterfly of the year. 50 degree, sunny, breezy early afternoon.

My first butterflies of the year! Also saw a Northern Leopard Frog sitting out in the roadway.

My first butterfly of the year! If I hadn't seen it land on the faded greens in my flower boxes, I would never have seen it because it was so well camouflaged.

Saw my first Mourning Cloak of the season along the Plover River Trail near the Hwy 66 parking area in the prairie area.

Mostly sunny, 43 degrees.

Walking the path N of Century Ave. Sunny but very windy, 66 degrees. Landed briefly for a great look then the wind blew it away!
